Purpose:
The aims of this study were to explore the relationship among nursing competence, job satisfaction, and intention to stay in nursing profession.
Methods:
This study adopted a cross-sectional design and used “Nursing Competence Scale”, “Job Satisfaction Scale”, “Intention to Stay Scale” to collect data. The response rate was 89% (251/282) and 251questionnaires were analyzed as valid samples. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were used for data analysis.
Results:
The findings included:the average “Nursing Competence Scale” score of nurses was 3.87±0.42 out of a maximum 5.0. Among the sub-dimensions of nursing competence, “technology competence” scored the highest (4.24±0.49), followed by “communication/collaboration competence” (4.12±0.49), while “research competence” scored the lowest(3.45±0.59). The average “job satisfaction” score by nurses was 3.48±0.54 out of a maximum 5.0. Among the sub-dimensions of job satisfaction presented higher intrinsic job satisfaction(3.66±0.51)than extrinsic job satisfaction (3.29±0.64). Senior staff with longer nursing experience, married and have children, had been worked cross several specialty, and higher monthly salary, higher level of clinical laden, who worked in private hospital reported better nursing competences. Those whom were married and have children, medical and surgical workers presented higher job satisfaction. Correlations between nursing competence, job satisfaction, and intention to stay were significant. Nursing competence explained 29% of the variance in job satisfaction. Job satisfaction explained 20% of the variance in intention to stay. |
