Abstract: The goal of this study was to discover the shortage of the current assistance from school for Taiwanborn
second generation who were schooling in universities and to find the real needs for them to
improve to have a better learning experience. The study was an attempt to discover the demographic
characteristics of the students in university and the difficulties they confronted in school. Those
university students whose mothers immigrated in Taiwan at the early stage confronted more hardships
and enjoyed few resources and limited financial subsidy. The study included results from a
questionnaire survey conducted during June, 2018 to 30 students of the second generation in Meiho
University. The results found that the second generation students were doing well in school. They
participated in class activities and discussed with classmates on subject topics. However, many of them
had to work part-time for financial difficulty. There was a group of students who were balancing a job
while studying for a degree. Long work hours would lead to tiredness, fatigue, and lack of attentiveness
in class and reduced students’ performance in academic learning. Handling a full time job and studies at
the same time required a good level of planning. School should provide appropriate assistance for them
    to complete the studies successfully.
