The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of incorporating ARCS model into freshmen general English course. The participants are freshman students from the four-year bachelor’s program at day-time division at Mei-Ho University. The researcher employed an action research method. The qualitative data were collected through classroom observation, students’ feedback, and instructor’s reflective diaries. The findings showed that students prefer a variety of learning materials to single textbooks. Although this method did increase the loadings of instructors, it worth trying. Besides, students enjoyed peer evaluation because they gained more autonomy and opportunities of peer observations. Finally, the researcher proposed pedagogical suggestions to enhance language teachers’ awareness of and their teaching efficiency.
