    Title: Developing Organizational Culture in Vietsopetro Joint Venture

    Abstract: For more than a quarter of a century (1981-2009), from the very starting point, the Vietsopetro Petroleum Joint Venture (which is called VSP from this point on) has thrived and become one of the leading companies in Southeast Asia in the field of exploiting and exporting crude oil. In the few recent years, VSP also became a petroleum technology supporter for domestic and foreign partners. As being aware of business culture is important and necessary to any firms that want to exist and firmly develop, this research aims to identify VSP''s corporate culture in the present and preferred in the future. In addition, the research also aims to propose possible solutions to perfect developing VSP’s corporate culture on base Petro Vietnam’s corporate culture in the future. Relevant literature related to cultural concepts, cultural organization, and business were examined at first. Then, types, levels of strengths and weakness of VSP’s culture as well as the managerial skill of senior managers identified. Based on requirements for the new period and development strategies, the research analyzed the future tendency and proposed some solutions to improve culture in VSP. In-depth interviews have done with VSP''s head officers and engineers. Data collected from the survey analyzed by Excel software. The VSP''s corporate culture, consequently, was sorted and evaluated by quantitative method, based on the categorization “Competing values framework” and the tools set OCAI and MSAI to determine the type and strength of VSP''s current corporate culture. Finally, possible solutions proposed in order to perfect managing skills, enhance the efficiency of VSP''s corporate culture in the future. The results would be useful for VSP’s managers in the process of building action plans, contributes in the development of VSP in the present and future. Meanwhile, the model of this study could apply for other businesses and organizations.
